Client Background
A paper mill located south of Manila, Philippines, producing kraft paper and corrugated medium. Energy costs constitute a major portion of their operating expenses, and they faced supply chain interruptions with imported coal.
The Challenge
The plant required a continuous, high-volume steam supply for their drying cylinders. Relying solely on coal left them vulnerable to price spikes. They wanted a system that could burn widely available and cheaper local biomass (coconut shells, wood waste) when coal prices were high, without sacrificing steam output.
Our Solution
We installed a 20-ton DZL series Hybrid Chain Grate Boiler. This custom-engineered unit features a modified air distribution system and grate bar spacing to efficiently burn both coal and various biomass fuels. The large furnace volume ensures complete combustion of high-volatile biomass.
