A request for a "2 ton gas boiler" is a starting point, but it leaves several costly decisions open. Two suppliers can quote that output while including different burners, water treatment equipment and installation work. Define the duty and the delivery boundary before comparing prices.
1. Describe the steam demand at the process
List each steam user, its required pressure and its hourly demand. Separate normal production from start-up and short peaks. State which machines operate together and how many shifts the plant runs. If consumption is unknown, send equipment data sheets and the production schedule rather than treating the sum of all nameplate loads as a measured demand.
Use kg/h or t/h for steam output and identify whether pressure is gauge or absolute. Record the required pressure at the machine as well as the proposed boiler pressure: distribution losses and control equipment must be considered in the final design. Mention direct steam contact with food or product separately; the required steam quality must be agreed before selecting the package.
2. Define the fuel and utilities
- Gas: available composition or heating value, supply pressure range, and whether a gas train is included.
- Liquid fuel: exact grade, site storage arrangements and any dual-fuel requirement.
- Electricity: voltage, phase, frequency and available supply for auxiliaries.
- Water: recent source-water analysis, available flow and pressure, plus expected condensate return.
- Site: destination, elevation, indoor or outdoor location, access dimensions and available boiler-room space.
3. Compare the same delivery boundary
Ask each supplier to mark items as included, optional or supplied by the buyer. Check the burner and fuel train, feed pumps, feed tank, water treatment, dosing, economizer, chimney, blowdown equipment, controls, valves and instrument package. A boiler-only price cannot be compared directly with a complete installed system.
Separate freight, unloading, foundations, pipework, electrical installation and commissioning. Record who provides local permits, inspections and operator training. Agree the required documentation and destination acceptance requirements in writing; a product series name alone does not establish approval for a particular country.
4. Request performance on an agreed basis
Specify the steam conditions, feedwater temperature, fuel basis and operating load used for a performance quotation. Ask whether the stated efficiency uses lower or higher heating value and whether heat-recovery equipment is included.
